So he thinks jest because the BNP have MP's the should be allowed access to any location they want.
Guess what, it doesn't work like that.

Is that what he/they are saying?

Mr Griffin had wanted to visit Sellafield in his capacity as a member of the European Parliament's environment committee.

Depends what's meant by that I guess, if he was being turned away as part of a bigger delegation etc, though it doesn't sound like that...

If any other duely elected representative with a similar role has been turned away then all is well but on the other hand if its just because hes an odious creep (that should be dragged into the streets and battered to within a inch of his life passing away) and they dont like his political beliefs then unfortunatly thats wrong.
There excuse that there might be security concerns is just a load of tosh. if a nuclear facility is worried about some anti-fascits demonstrators then a commited band of terrorists should have no problem.

Now as they have made a big issue of saying no, when he is allowed in they have just ensured a huge demonstration. plus all this free publicity of "once again the BNP is being persecuted".

I wonder if he needs any kind of security clearance to tour the site. That could be a legitimate reason.

Sellafield's got a Visitors Centre and does organised tours for cripe's sake. If he needs clearance so does every schoolchild in the north of England.

It strikes me if they'd just given him a tour and not told anybody, no protesters would have known to turn up and the whole thing would have happened without incident - after all Griffin doesn't have a group of protesters following him night & day. By banning him and giving the BNP another chance to wave the 'we are being persecuted' banner, they've pretty much ensured

1) They will have to let him in at some point.
2) When they do there will be a protest outside.

BNFL's public relations are muppets, basically.

I think the story meant he wanted access that most tourists don't get.
