These higher ISOs are likely to mean better noise reduction controls in-camera, which can only be a good thing, right? Clicky Mark |

Until I can take a photo of a black cat in a coal mine, in no light, I won't be happy. DSLRs are rubbish. ![]() |

Yes he will, as will I. I still believe that the technology will have to get a lot better beofre I even consider ditching my F65 though. |

What do you use currently for those cat shots? And, even more challenging, how do you persuade the cat to model for you in all that filthy coal slurry? ![]() |

Each has it's place. For what it's worth, I don't think the tech. will have to get "a lot better". A little better and a lot cheaper would do it. (8+) Mark |

Mrs. V. has a Kodak 12MP something or other which I bought her last year, and the photos are quite impressive, but I still prefer using my F65. Actually I prefer using my Praktica ML5 which is completely manual and probably made before I was... ![]() |

A pencil and some paper. ![]() Was just joshing about the DSLRs thing. As Mark says, each has their place. I will, at some point, buy into the whole digital-schmigital thing, but only when I can afford to replace the lenses I currently own with their digital equivalents. So that'll be a 28mm, 45mm, 50mm and a 135mm in whatever flavour system I buy into. For now though, and for the most part, I'm happy using film for some things, and the work DSLR for their stuff. |

My brother had one of those, lucky git. I had the MTL3 (still have it sitting in the corner). I took much better pictures with that than I ever did with my newer Canon EOS500... |

That's a matter of perspective. I think I take much better pictures with my DSLR than I ever did with the Olympus OM10. The thing is digital is different to film. There are some things you have to bear in mind when using a DSLR which probably never arise with even the most sophisticated 35mm film camera. There's a lot of electronics going on which try to make the best of the image, and the exposure system is trying to optimise everything. Once you know that, you can adjust and override and get the pictures you want. It just takes practice, and a better understanding of what the camera's trying to do. I recommend books on the subject as a primer. Check the Photography forum for a list of publications recommended, and also check out the numerous blogs and podcasts on digital photography. |
