People are stupid. They will believe anything on television.

An example being CPR. If you ask most people, they'll tell you they think it's 80-90% successful. The true success rate is 12-15% (in hospital; much less outside). Because of this, when you tell them their nearest and dearest relative will not be for resuscitation, they can't understand why.

The 'real csi' type shows are a bit more accurate in their portrayal. I saw one a few days back and it showed some bank robber in America robbing multiple banks. The video evidence was poor and there was no usable forensic evidence. The case ended up relying on an eyewitness which then helped the case (witness had seen the vehicle and noted the plates).
