Yes, it seems like a lot of money (and is for most of us) but considering the size of the BBC I suspect it's not that much compared to commercial broadcasters.
Not all of the BBC's money comes from the licence fee either. If you want to get properly riled, look at what top civil servants get (especially the guy in charge of royal mail).
