That's a shame, because the Facebook application for the iPhone is really very good.

I think Apple now treat their customers with more contempt than MS did in the late 90's.

Aren't Apple a little bit up their own arse?

P.S. On the Mac User page there's a big side banner advert for Windows 7  In fact once the page loaded I saw another ad right in the middle of the article.

I don't.
It may treat the developers that way, but I don't think it treats it's customers like that.

I've now got an iPhone on Orange, (my phone) and an HTC Hero, (T-Mobile G2) as my business phone. I have to say, that the facebook, and most of the other apps I've downloaded for Android are better than the iPhone. In fact the only thing better about the iPhone overall is the music player, the one on the Hero just sounds flat and unmusical. If I posted that up on a dedicated Apple forum i'd probably get stabbed.

So what are the main differences?
Can you post screenshots?

Yeah, I noticed that as well. There was also a Windows 7 advert on the top of the page that I was directed to when I clicked the comments link...

Sucks, don't it? It's a product of a central source of Dennis advertising, which usually means totally inappropriate ads appearing in the Mac side.

Most people either block them or ignore them. That smug git with his nose in the air, though, bugs me.

Not to mention the FREE sat nav from Google and things like that :)

IIRC don't you only get that with Android 2 (i.e. the Droid) or is it downloadable for others too? Google have said they're working on a sat nav app for the iphone as well, I'd expect that to be included in iphone firmware 4.0, or possibly appear on the App Store soon depending on how they decided to do it.

As to this bloke, I think he's being a bit of a prima donna to be honest. Apple do treat their developers quite badly on initial view but actually it's pretty comparable to how developers are treated on other 'walled garden' systems - like games consoles for example. Ironically the only people to treat developers even worse than Apple are Facebook...

And TBH, the iPhone OS Facebook app really isn't that good at all. It works, mostly, but the UI is a mess and it's not particularly stable. It's nowhere near as nice a piece of code as some of the twitter apps for example. let's be blunt, him leaving doesn't mean a calamity as much as it means a hole in the market opening up for someone to build a new, better facebook app that actually doesn't crash and sticks a bit more to the iphone UI standards.

The Facebook for iPhone application has never crashed on me, and it's not like I never use it.
The version 1 app was a bit rubbish but since the update happened a short while ago it's much more usable.
I find the UI just fine. The only thing missing from it is Groups access.

Apple users are a big target audience for Retail versions of Windows - if they need Windows on a Mac, they don't have any other option, they can't use OEM, because they didn't build the Mac and they can't use upgrade, because they don't have an older version of Windows on the machine (assuming they don't already have BootCamp partition or VM with a legal version of XP or Vista installed).

Most other user groups already have a copy of Windows pre-installed, so they can upgrade, or they build the machines themselves, so they can use the OEM version.

Apple users, who need Windows for certain tasks, don't have those options, so, per machine, they spend more on Microsoft Windows than Windows users do.

And, unlike Apple, they don't need to "bag" a switcher, it is irrelevant to Microsoft if the users dual boot the Mac or just run Windows on it, it is a sale. Apple have to actually get switchers to dish out for new hardware.

Well first of all my iPhone experience has been somewhat jaded from the word go, the first one I got turned itself off and wouldn't come back on, so the replacement (from the actual Orange store, which was lucky) has a sunken screen on one side, if you look at it, its sunken down on the left side and apparently i'm not the only person with this issue, but Orange reckon its not an exchangeable fault, so i'll wait for the dust to settle and says something else is up with it for a replacement.

Regarding the facebook app, well the first thing that blows the iphone away is the fact you have dedicated one of the 7 home screens to Facebook, and it runs all the time and updates like an email notification, all you is flick the screen one and you have all the updates there. I have one for Twitter and one for Flickr also.

The actual app is similar, but what I can't do on my iphone is have my facebook page open on one of my homescreens like I can on Android and have it constantly update, as my iPhone doesn't do multitasking. What is more important is the Hero does stuff faster than the iPhone even when loads of stuff is running in the background but you must use an HCSD card as it sort of uses it as a temporary folder and normal Micro SD's are too slow. I assume the no multitasking of background apps, particularly third partys apps is to save battery life.

Camera wise, both Cameras on both phone are crap, never mind the pixel count. The iPhone scores because of its music capability and the quality with Shure buds is not bad, so I use it when I go to the gym or out on walks.

Technically, it does. How else do you think Apple got iTunes to play music while you are doing something else? Apple only allow their apps to multi-task. They claim other apps are not allowed to improve stability. I understand that the Android has a 6 app limit for multi-tasking. Hopefully Apple will allow third party apps multi-tasking rights in a future iPhone update.
