WTF is DAB.

"Local" radio should be wiped out, it's all owned by record companies, you can travel all over the country listen to twenty different radio stations and only ever hear Back For Good, Hotel California and Last Train To Clarksville and whatever s h i t xfactor is churning out.

You might do sooner than you think. Aren't the powers that be talking about switching off analogue radio fairly soon. (2015 or something like that?)

EDIT

Googled - 2017 to 2020 for FM switch off, 2015 for AM switch off.

CLICKY

No I mean unless there's a drastic policy change to what LaptopAcidXperience is getting at, I won't care what form radio comes in

My stereo isn't even tuned properly since I never listen to the radio at home due to cack DJs, infuriating ads, a severe lack of music variety... :x

I'm a lover of radio,i have a small pocket radio (Sony) that goes with me everywhere.

I listen to a fare bit of stuff on MW and would love to be able to receive a strong signal on a pocket DAB but am in a bad area for receiving a DAB signal :(

I do have a mains DAB in the house on which i can get a good reception & is nice to use to listen to the footie or the cricket even though i have Sky to watch them on.There is something special about listening to sport on the radio that is not conveyed on TV.

So the sooner they turn it up to 11 the better :D

yours wecrookie

I listen to the radio quite a lot although I give most (in fact pretty much all now that I think about it) commercial radio stations a wide berth.
BBC Radio 1, 2 and 4 are what I listen to.
Alarm clock Radio 2
During the day Radio 1 and 2
Evenings at 6:30 usually radio 4 because the comedy is really rather good a lot of the time. Some of it is absolute dross don't get me wrong but they have had far more hits than misses IMHO.

Don't have a DAB radio at the moment but it's something I would certainly consider getting if I have the cash available.

I bought a DAB radio a few years ago for around £100, and it was completely useless. I could only get a signal upstairs, and when it lost the signal it totally crashed and needed powering off.

We have a new one at the office, and that does exactly the same. Every time someone walks past it, the signal goes and you have to reboot it.

Now we have all the radio channels available on Freeview and Internet, I have no intention of buying another DAB radio. There's just no point for me in the home.

However, the car would be a different story. I'd also be a bit peeved if I had to replace my radio alarm clock, although I very rarely use it (usually my phone wakes me up). I guess I could always re-tune them to something foreign; does Luxembourg still broadcast?

I read recently that the pips - AKA the TIme Signal is not as accurate on digital radio due to lag and decompression time.

That's almost certainly true. If you have a DAB and an FM on, the DAB is several seconds behind. You get the same thing with analogue TV vs Freeview.

At least, it was when I last tried it. They may have delayed the analogue signal to compensate by now.

They really need to put DAB in all new cars.
