I think Google are being cleverer than that, this will (should) demonstrate that users aren't interested in the pay content, it's also a clever political move diffusing the row with Murdoch which could affect other Google income streams such as licensing Maps to News International. |

That's what I'm hoping for from Google in the long run, but wouldn't NI be able to use Maps for free? I don't know much about Maps

I believe to use GMaps for commercial purposes there is some form of licensing fee, and that's just as a desktop app, I suppose it might be case of Google letting NI use Maps on the news as a marketing tool for free. Now that you mention i'm not sure??? |
