What's the deal with the 'average ad', does it need to be clicked on for the site you're visiting to earn money?
I mentally block out advertising of every kind myself these days , and for the internet there's Adblock and various other progs - I don't know many people who click on ads anyway

It depends, but a lot of revenue models are based around traffic or unique visitors to the site. If the ads are blocked, they probably don't register.

Agreed. NoScript stops all the annoying pop ups etc, but allows normal ads that pay for websites.
