Poor guy, but I don't agree with caging wild animals and forcing them to perform...
Evidently, he tripped and fell, landing on his back, at which point 3 of the 5 tigers in the pit jumped on him and started to maul him. According to the Bild article I read yesterday morning (German paper somewhere between the Star and the Sun), the tigers bit deep into his head and arms, shredded the flesh on one hand and left him in a critical condition, before the tigers could be pushed back.
