I didn't state explicitly that he was a nonce, I thought it was a well worked joke, tying in a reference to a controversial TV programme and what most people would like to see happen to Mandelscum, indicating the level of revulsion I feel many have for this obviously evil "man".

libel: The communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image.

LAX did not state or imply anything. He said "I bet" which is an expression of personal opinion. People do not expect to win every bet. A bet is not a statement, implied or otherwise, of fact. A bet is a judgment call based on opinion, form, instinct or guesswork.

If he'd said "He's so gay" then that would have been libel (unless he is?). He did not say that.

Censoring the expression of personal opinion is, in my opinion, very very wrong. I'm not sure I want to be part of a community that would accept such action without question

JJ I appreciate your support and you are absolutely agree with you, it will be interesting to see how other people view this censorship, assuming anyone notices/cares, I must admit initially I was considering doing a Frankie Boyle.

Conversely, I understand where the mods/admins are coming from, because correct me if I'm wrong they are as responsible for potentially libellous comments as the original poster, so I believe their actions are necessary in order for the community to survive.

Incidentally I believe Peter Mandelson is openly gay, although his alien species may not classify same sex relationships in the same way humans do.

Well it was me who reported it and I'll tell you why.

Like it or lump it "I think/bet he's an X" is defamation, you are undermining someone's character without evidence. It goes beyond speculation, he stated that more likely than not what he thought Peter Mandelson was. Even a mere implication is enough to commit libel, and in this case I don't think Fair Comment is going to help anyone.

I'm sure the last thing Saspro wants or needs is a writ arriving at his door, so I reported the post.
