Hmm, think I'll rent Star Trek soon as a test

Well, give it to after Christmas when all those vouchers are used.

Blu-ray discs are more expensive in comparison to DVDs, and even though HD TVs are starting to shift, how many of those TVs are hooked up to a BR player?

Knock the price of a BR disc to that of a DVD and you'll have more sales. Price them stupidly high and very few people buy'em.

Having just experience how good a standard def DVD looks when upscaled, I doubt I'd make the effort to seek out Blu-ray disc into the future - especially at their current price point.

Strangely, even an upscaled copied disc looks good on my £20 multimedia wonder  :?

No surprises here then, it's the emperors new format if you ask me, which I'm sure most of you wouldn't

This is true - I have a very good DVD player, and it squirts RGB goodness into a dedicated RGB SCART port on my new TV, and they look really good. It’s certainly good enough not to want to exchange the whole collection for BluRay editions.

Blu-Ray does have a significant edge, though. New movie purchases will be in this format, though.

At some point down the line, I suspect a hi-def player of some kind will be acquired. Until then, and until BR discs are priced sensibly, I will continue to purchase plain old DVDs.

Incidentally, we're using HDMI for the connection to the TV. I think we'll be in the market for a replacement AV amp at some point next year, too.

Well had my Blu Ray player now for nearly 2 years and still only got 3 discs for it - just too damn expensive for the negligable picture difference.

Tesco's have loads of disks for £7.
I'm stocking up my collection at the moment.
