It just shouldn't fly!! I know it's all lightweight and fuel efficient but just LOOK how narrow those wings are!?!?

It shouldn't be able to get off the ground :?

It'll be fine - the wing root chord (length from leading edge to trailing edge) is 38.94ft or 11.9m.

That's 50% deeper than your average Taylor-Woodrow semi-detached house.

Or to put it another way, you could park 4.8 Routemaster buses side by side.

Yeah but that doesn't stop it looking like a normal jet that swapped its wings for small sticks. :D

I'd like to see it take off with 96 of them attached. Just to prove the point. Will someone let me turn off the laws of physics and common sense for half an hour?

Don't forget the false impressions of scale. The wing is a similar size to a 767's, but they look smaller as the turbofan on the 787 have a much larger diameter (2.85m v 2.19m), giving a false prospective.
