If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

It's funny, isn't it, how someone can effectively shout "BANG!" and make one of the world's most powerful countries go into panic mode.

He did a bit more than that TBF. A UK student visa you say? There's a surprise. Yet another thing the current administration decided to 'improve' and in the process of doing so broke beyond comprehension. Jon

Yup. Having a UK student visa is hardly an achievement these days.

What annoys me about all this airport security guff is that I could literally walk into Paddington station on Monday completely unchallenged, detonate a large explosive and kill just as many people, if not more than you'd kill on an aeroplane.

As happened in Barcelona, more or less. Any large train station at rush hour is a much 'better' target for a terrorist than an airliner. I suspect they continue to attack airliners for the psychological effect - we know train stations etc aren't secured but an airliner is. If they can get through all the security and still attack an airliner, it suggests the terrorists are smarter than the security services. Jon

Now I've never understood the logic of the attacks so far. Yes, they've gone for things like planes or trains because the confined space would cause more damage than in an open area. However, just look at the airport chaos this winter. If they were logical they could walk into the pre-security area with 2 huge suitcases stuffed to the brim and take out more people than in a plane or a train. Thousands of people were stuck hanging about in crowds... It would also mean the airport would be shut down and security procedures would have to be completely overhauled to include the pre-security area. None of it makes any sense, I'm not just talking ideologically, I'm talking logistically. I know some halfwit tried to drive into an airport in Scotland but that was obviously not going to work. I just don't understand, I mean these people who are supposedly behind all the attacks have been fighting in various conflicts for decades, they're not stupid. Well, I'm glad they have no logic.... Ah, maybe they have. After hanging around an airport it wouldn't take that much for most people to stove the face in of a nearby Grandma so if they saw someone acting weird around some suspicious cases they'd tear them limb from limb before they could unzip the first case.

What really beggars belief is the response of the airlines flying to the States... Depending on the airline/airport, this is the treatment you can expect: - No electrical goods in hand luggage
- No using computers, mp3s etc. during the flight
- No using computers, mp3s etc. during the last hour of the flight
- Not allowed to read a book
- Not allowed to have a blanket or pillow
- Entertainment systems disabled (usually the same ones who ban computers etc.), so no music, no video, no reading for a 12 hour flight!
 - No food or liquids allowed on the flight
- No powder allowed on the flight
- No getting out of your seat for the last hour of the flight
- Re above: No use of toilets during the last hour of the flight
- On board maps not shown during flight, as it will give away the current location of the plane
Given that the terrorists usually want to blow the plane up over American soil, the not allowed to use electrical goods, not allowed out of your seat etc. tends to negate the turning off of the onboard entertainment system and maps, which both show ETA current position... If you know your destination is at least an hour into American air space, you don't need the map, you just wait until you are told to remain in your seat!

the most powerful attack by 'terrorists' made on the US was using passenger aircraft, allegedly
if this type of terror attack is so successful why has it never ever been repeated
and please don't give me security has stopped this type of attack …

It's impossible to get into the cockpit now - I believe even the pilots can't open the door while the aeroplane is in flight.

What we need are those 'stasis pods' like in the film The Fifth Element. Or fly Emirates, I don't think they'll be high up on the list.
