http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009 ... ding-sales I doubt I'll ever find myself in a packed-out shop sale ever again. I can't be arsed for one thing, and the net usually beats most stores anyway ![]() |

I had to go shopping today to buy some essentials. Dear God, what an inglorious experience. Tons and Tons of people wandering about apparently with no actual plan other than 'buy stuff that has a red sticker with a percentage number on it'. I have a feeling if they'd been offering money off on cat litter people who didn't even have cats would be buying it and my cat would be doing it's business on shredded newspaper. Jon |

I'm as guilty as anyone for buying stuff because it's cheap, but at least I know I'll eventually use it. Not to mention the fact I'm rarely in a shop when it happens ![]() |

People are stupid sheep, a bit of forethought and planning can do wonders. Just spent a fortune on christmas presents, now christmas is over why not go out and spend even more money you haven't got on stuff you don't need or want. That ought to rack up enough debt on top of your mortgage and 4x4 payments to make sure you stay working and don't cause any trouble. Get real. |

I bought two things in the sales. I took the missus to town to buy her mum a coffee table and popped into Game to get my Nephew his bday pressie (for end of Jan) and went online to get a remote shutter release for the camera with 10% off. |

why do you think that employers are actively making Sunday contracts at a standard pay rate that is equal to the normal working week pay rate as soon as 'overtime' is removed from the equation in regard to Sunday (or bank holiday) pay then it will become legal to force employees to work on these days as it is illegal, at this time, to force employees to work overtime but as soon as that barrier has been removed by equalising the pay rates so overtime is irrelevant then employers will be able force employees to work on these days … |

+1 The removal of extra/overtime pay for working on Bank Holidays and Sundays is just one more step towards being able to force people to work on a Sunday. In fact, there is little doubt in my mind that anyone who states in an interview that they would not work Sundays is less likely to get the job, even though that would be highly illegal. |

Guildford is hideous on a Saturday, but not as bad on Sundays. I hope if they change the law then that won't change. If mail order companies started offering Saturday delivery for a reasonable amount of cash, then I'd visit real shops even less. |
