Post subject:  Nick Clegg urges leaders to show 'convictions'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8433904.stm

Quote:
"I remember once looking round the House of Commons during another Punch and Judy session of Prime Minister's Questions," he said (Clegg).

At the time he said youth unemployment had just reached its highest level ever, soldiers were fighting in Afghanistan and the economy was in the middle of "the worst recession in generations".

"And what were the politicians doing? Yelling and guffawing at each other as if the outside world didn't exist. So I don't blame anyone for feeling a sense of despair about our clapped-out political system."

I know what he means, but at the same time, Joe Public would probably give even less of a sh1t if they weren't... You only have to look at TV and the media in general to see that a bit of false drama is what pulls in the mainstream UK punters these days :(

PMQs is so irrelevant I don't know why so many people get worked up about it. Do they really believe that Parliament's role in scrutinising HMG is half an hour on a Wednesday?

PMQs is just show-boating, the real scrutiny happens elsewhere. All this pointless posturing by Party leaders about "Punch and Judy politics" really sticks in my craw.
