Seems the cameras shouldn't have been there in the first place (but how clear was that I wonder), but also that the police shouldn't have taken them...

first they banned smoking, then obesity and alcohol, now cameras

Yeah, I posted this link on Fb at the end of December.
The police clearly knew that the request and acquisition of cameras from the public was above their remit. I'd've been bloody livid if I was there and some jobsworth came over to me and told me to hand over my camera.
The police really needs to get a grip of what it's allowed to do and what the laws are regarding photography in public spaces in the U.K.
