It will be full of adverts, for big budget vacuous, moronic, superficial superhero films substituting CGI for story, character and entertainment. |

That would be the raiding of the Marvel/DC character portfolio then? I am getting rather fed up with the, to be honest. A couple were a novelty, but they are as common as muck now. So, basically, it’s going to be a CGI Marvel/DC Love-In fest. I’ll pass. |

But the comic book films are now heading in the right direction, bar the sh1tty Spider-man films, and even that may change with the new one. Even the Sony dumbasses must know they could kill off that franchise if they knock out another turd like the third film so soon... Regarding CGI, has it really been a problem with the recent comic book films? It looked the stuff in Iron Man that's for sure, sh1tty Spidey doesn't even overdo it, it only really got a bit mad at the end of the Hulk, and it wasn't the best film anyway ![]() Meanwhile Batman is back on track for at least another film, nothing short of a minor miracle and even WB realise that, you have both DC and Marvel actually preparing strategies so that the films can maintain the quality of their best efforts and scale up the under-performers alongside them for a cohesive set of films. All of which may just build up to the best sort of comic book stories getting shown on screen, I'm talking about what Stallone's trying to do with The Expendables, get a dream team of the biggest characters/actors in a genre all in the one film. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is in the position of having both his own films and still having the option of going back to X-Men, which Brian Singer has returned to in a fashion. There's even more, but the studios are finally getting it - these things don't work or will have no real longevity without talent both in front of and behind the camera. The idea's spreading too, Sam Mendes has been announced as the next Bond director... |

Sam Mendes cannot do anything other than stage plays, witness the abortion that was Jarhead, to be honest Bond deserves him, or McG. |

I knew Jarhead wouldn't be my type of film so I didn't bother, A. Beauty and Perdition were good though, and the fact he's even looking at Preacher means there's more to him than dull dramas. But we'll see... As I said in the movie news thread, Craig could be out of a lucrative job if they release another QoS-style stinker, but at the same time they can't repeat Royale again... I'm all for Bond films, but it would take some serious skills to keep coming up with ideas and walk the tightrope that is the new serious direction... |

I like Mendes stuff, American Beauty is my personal 'best movie ever' in terms of craft, technique, performance and script. Perdition was also terrific, I haven't seen Jarhead - the story just doesn't appeal. (Not Mendes, but I liked QoS and Royale as well.) If he's attached to a Preacher movie, then I'm quietly pleased. That film has been talked about for years; I'd hate to see it [LIFTED] up by the wrong pair of hands. |
