I was confused by the title, since almost all metallic objects will wreak havoc as well as cause artefacts. And reading about a valvuloplasty (which I've seen in person) also made me confused. The glass-fibre guidewire is an ingenious solution. However, I will comment that with metal guide wires, there's always the chance that a 'tip' could break off and stay lodged in the arteries. I wonder whether this risk is enhanced or diminished by using glass-fibre instead. |
