He's quite possibly hit the nail on the head there...

I think the exact opposite.

I can't stand cinemas because they're full of ignorant tossers and I hate watching films with more than two other people in the room.

I love watching films in my living room because I usually do it on my own or with one other person.

Oh and the sound in my living room is far better than the raucous, sibilant noise one gets subjected to in any cinema within 20 miles.

There's times a baseball bat wouldn't go amiss with a trip to the cinema, there's no doubt... I kinda like to watch films on my own so I can concentrate on it, but I appreciate that isn't gonna be the 'average' household, which I'm assuming is what M$ boy is getting at for the mainstream sales of the tech.

I haven't been in a cinema that had good sound in years either :(

Microsoft might be a long way from 3D in the living room, I suspect other firms are not.

I think you are right. The living room is a very different environment to the cinema, and 3D will need to be presented in ways that don’t require gizmos and flickering screens. I’m very keen on the idea, but I am not convinced that the current solutions are anything less than a half-way house.

Well, I don't know what planet Microsoft is living on, but my whole world is 3D already. Apart from this thing I'm squinting at right now.

We’re talking 3D+1.

Actually, we’re talking the revival of an old Victorian photographic trick - sending views from two slightly differently positioned lenses into each eye, fooling the brain into “seeing” something in 3D. This is what they all do - whatever lens/goggles/glasses you have to use.

I've been saying for a couple of years, that 3D televisions won't catch on big time, until they can display 3D without needing glasses etc.
And what are people with out stereoscopic vision supposed to do, when the rest of the family is watching a 3D film? :?

Exactly. My wife is blind in one eye so 3D's no good for her. Means I have to see Avatar on my own.

The Xbox 360 platform holder has not been putting its weight behind the current push to 3D gaming,

Not surprising since the 360 lacks the power to do decent graphics at the high frame rate required for 3D TV.
Let's face it, people paying out huge sums for this will want full 1080 3D, not something that's a compromise.
