Oh sure, give the pregnant female soldiers an easy time! What about pregnant male soldiers?
Damn this inequality!

;)

A story a while back said the MOD would like to let them go IIRC...

Training in the British army isn't what it used to be, the Army doesn't even attract the type of aggresive misfits it used to. If anyone remembers the BBC series 'The Paras' one should compare and contract both the training and the types of people who go into the Paras these days alone. Most are middle class, and most of the techniques used to create fearless fighting men are not allowed to be used.

Still calling the British army the best in the world is a huge joke, and it irks me to say that as I am a former squaddie. The Armies of France and Germany are more disciplined, better equipped and probably better trained these days, although this wasn't the case in say the 80's.

What lets our forces down these days is the same red tape, nanny state, jobsworth mentality and other things that lets every other area of the country down.

I remember The Paras - what I can’t do is contrast that with modern training methods as I doubt they’d have me if I wanted to join. I guess they are less harsh than they used to be.

Was that in the late 70s/early 80s that show? Andy McNabb talks about it in Seven Troop - he recognised one of the guys from it when he got into the army himself :)
