What a load of crap. Actually, that sums up the whole scheme's new direction...

The introduction of the Vetting and Barring Scheme has prompted widespread controversy. Children's author Philip Pullman, who regularly gives talks to children in schools, has said he will stop doing so. "Why should I have to pay £64 to a government agency to give me a little certificate saying that I am not a paedophile," he said. "It's so ludicrous that it's almost funny, but actually it's rather dispiriting and sinister."
I don't blame him.

If you have one of these certificates, will British Airways let you sit in your seat?

If it is part of your job description then no doubt employers will in most part pay for it. But how many people who work with children or those needing care do so on a voluntary basis? I think there will be quite a knock on effect from this.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Well, I’ve just had to fill in a CRB form so I can do the occasional voluntary work at my other half’s school.

I think they should make you pay another £64 to say that you're not a slave trader, another £64 to say that you're not a drug dealer and another £64 for a certificate to say that that you're the type of person who doesn't default on paying his £64 that's needed for his £64 certificates.
