about frigging time, useless browser is useless. hopefully this may spur some businesses to upgrade a newer version (our school went to IE7 last year)

according to that article, some government agencies still use IE6. so much for national security :(

Most use IE6 but the problem is in house application's that cost millions and won't work on anything but IE6.

Secure browsing that's totally locked down is being rolled out on GSI sites anyway. you want to download an attachment of print a web page out you send a link and an email to support and they do it for you  Honest to god. 8-)

Good. The sooner this wretched browser is dead and buried, the better. Clearly Microsoft aren’t going to do it, so others are going to do it for them.

This is def a good move.

It reminds me of something that happened at work this week actually.

We have just aquired a new business as part of our own and they have been migrated to the in house software that the rest of the company's companies use. (POS stuff)

One of the helpdesk (I use the word "help" loosely) guy phoned me to say that a report needs rewriting as it doesn't open on this guy's PC when I asked what he was trying to open it in it was Excel 2000 (trying to open an XML spreadsheet).

My reply went something along the lines of... "Seeing as Microsoft stopped support for Office 2000 almost a year ago I would suggest upgrading him to a later version of Office or you can pass it as a development request to my manager but I don't think it'll get very far." The fix was a free upgrade to Office XP...

It seems to be a common factor of any businesses using computer equipment. The newest equipment or software used has to be at least 5 years old.

My college uses IE6 most annoying is no tabbed browsing on computers so slow it takes 3 minutes to load a new web browser.

All well and good, but won't the same thing happen again with IE7 and IE8 and we'll go through all this again when they're legacy software and considered insecure?
