A very stupid move by the US seeing as China basically own their arse after buying up a fair whack of the debt that the US racked up from the war in Iraq.

Why didn't they sell them on the sly then? Surely that can't be too hard with White house approval.

Yip, and long before that from what I've read, a lot of it due to decisions from the previous Fed Bank chairman apparently...
