The government are to blame for this mess. If they had not taken so many services away from post offices this would not have happened.

There was open warfare in my village when our PO was threatened. The MP was summoned and informed in no uncertain terms if he wanted to keep his seat he had better make sure we kept our post office. :D

Its actually much busier now than it used to be.

The government said that they would have joined up thinking though by taking away the contracts for paying benefits they made the economics of running post offices far harder. Then they did the same with so many areas, with each department claiming that it would save them money. Plonkers.

If they close the post office near where I live, I’d have to get a bus into town. We did have one closer, but that was closed a few years ago. The current local post office is grim and bleak. It’s run by people who seem to love having conversations with customers, despite the queue stretching out of the door at times.

My local Post Office is staffed by people who look like they would rather hang themselves than be there.

I bet it has good lighting though than my post office. Even with the temporary looking lights, it’s a dark place. Worse so for the staff who seem to be existing in a permanent dusk. They are probably vampires. At times I wish they would close it so that posting parcels was not such a depressing and dismal experience.

Yes, we had similar problems but it's closed now

I think it was the rise of eBay that led to their working day depression

QFT. The looks of contempt I get for posting anything more than a few items at any one time could kill.

After standing in a queue for the best part of half an hour, I suggested that they get a stamp dispensing machine - the central post office used to have one (before they uprooted it into Smiths). I was told quite abruptly that “it would not work”. So if I want stamps, its a long queue to endure. I’m supposed to support it or it goes?

Get them from Tesco et al, or your newsagent. ;)

Stamp machines are different from actual post office counters. eBay has probably helped boost traffic in many post offices possibly to the point that they are no longer at risk.
