When Mr Straw's own legal adviser told him an invasion without a second UN resolution would amount to a crime of aggression, he rejected the advice.

Regardless of what the enquiry eventually tells us, I think a lot of people will be coming to their own conclusions.

Can't search for it at the moment (I'll have a look later or post it myself), but P. Eye ran a story about gas masks etc being ordered for staff at Westminster - the media didn't bother to report that bit seemingly :?

Found it:

Quote:
(Jack Straw) My worry about this was that if we didn’t get a second resolution and didn’t pursue the matter, that the whole effort would be diminished and degraded and we would be back in a worse position with Saddam than we thought, and bear in mind behind all of this was our profound belief that Saddam had, and was going to use, weapons of mass destruction. If I may say, Sir John, so profound that in the Foreign Office we acquired for our staff protective clothing for them, including protective gas masks, which I actually had in my office and inspected myself.

Private Eye and the above site are the only two sources I can find for that statement online (Private Eye only give you a headline really, they would like you to buy the mag of course :) ), so wtf is the mainstream media playing at ignoring that aspect of it?

And what a waste of money
