Yes the confidentiality of pay should be ignored as they are getting tax payers money. As such it should be a matter of public record. I do not worry about anyone who is getting less than the top 10% of income.

People only want to know names and numbers so that they can then coo and caw over how much celebrities get and what they spend it on. It would fuel months of tabloid celebrity spending breakdowns.

We know what Ross got paid. We know how much Carrie Gracie (New reader) gets (around £92,000 - she announced that figure as part of an interview with a politician last year) so we have a ball park figure for a news presenter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrie_Gracie

You have to remember that these people will be paying the highest rate of tax, so 50% of that will be going to HMRC.
