If it is used as an alternative to 15-minute long ad breaks for every 10 mins of programme like you get on Sky and ITV now, fine, but I dare say we'll end up with both.

It depends on how it is done. Some is so outrageously product placement you wonder how stupid they think we are. If it is subtle it can be a good way for TV companies to finance the show.
