Even so it's still more secure than using a signature. Anyone can practice and master a signature on a card they find/steal. |

maybe but if your card is cloned the process of proving you did not authorise the transaction is much harder. I keep all my receipts so can verify my purchases. |

No, it's not more secure - just puts the blame on people. |

+1 How does the reader in the backpack attach to the cable between the POS terminal and the card reader, or the telephone line to the bank? ![]() All the readers in shops here are hard wired to an ISDN line and the POS terminal, I think the cashier would notice if the customer tried to apply crocodile clips onto the cables. ![]() |

Don't you have wireless card readers in the fatherland, in restaurants here most terminals are two part devices with a lift off wireless section that the waiter takes to the customer. |

Yes there are a lot of wireless card readers in the UK. They are mainly in restaurants. |

Ah. I don't know, I always pay cash in a restaurant. All shops have hardwired readers, because there is no need to move them... That said, we are still recovering from the outage caused by the faulty programming in French produced smart cards, which didn't understand 2010 and refused to validate themselves for transaction! I think the figure ran to over 10 million card affected! Luckily mine wasn't one of them. |
