I am embarrassed to admit I went to Sussex after hearing this! History is important you just can't sweep it under the carpet. :(

They would save even more money if they limited it to 2000. Instead of having to cover 300 years, they can concentrate on the last ten!

Prof Paul Layzell, deputy vice-chancellor, said: “The proposal put forward by the University of Sussex to withdraw from certain areas of research and specialist teaching in history reflects three factors: first, a strategic determination to focus our research in areas of sustainability and strength; second, to align undergraduate provision with areas of demonstrable demand; and, thirdly, a need to reflect the Government’s financial policy for higher education.

translation. Finacially we are [LIFTED] as the government has taken away our money. Therefore we must do all the really cheap courses that cost the least for us to support, such as those micky mouse course eveyone says are [LIFTED]..
This will lead to the country being [LIFTED] as those expensive course are the ones the country needs more graduates of.
