I think that the government will have to make up some of the drop in income, like they do in Germany. Though you will still be worse off but less likely to be unemployed. |

I suspect the numbers of people with a second job would dramatically increase should this actually happen. Mark |

Why are these "think tanks" always full of idiots? Who could afford to live on 21 hours wages a week? |

I'll have you know I turn up for my allocated hours - and that's as much as can be expected from 8 until 4, frankly ![]() As l3v1ck, was getting at, where do they find these people? Better yet, who's funding them? ![]() |

We don't get any make up for loss of income, if your job has fewer hours. Some companies currently have "short work", which means that employees on a full contract only work 4 days and they get unemployment benefit for the 5th day. But those with 400€ jobs, halbe Stelle (half a job) or drei Viertel Stelle (3/4 job) don't get any extra benefits. |

LMFAO. I just did a 77-hr week and this week I'm doing at least 56hours. There are no way enough staff to meet a 21-hour week. They'd have to shut the hospital and leave the patients unattended for this to be successful. |

Imagine if the UK had signed up to the working time directive of a maximum of 48 hours per week? ![]() |

Some such as the Institute for Fiscal Studies are independent and get their funding from members of which I am one, some from corporate memberships for which they get the institutes publications, and they are sponsored to do research by government departments but they are independent of the departments. Many of these think tanks are little more than lobby groups for certain interests. The Adam Smith Institute are for smaller government and privatisation's etc, they get funds from right wing backers as does the Tax Payers Alliance. |

Although it sounds excessive, if you average my working time over the entire rota, it works out to an average of 45 hours. This includes two weeks of leave which really brings down the average. There are ways to get round all "limits". Commonest way is to average the working time over two weeks rather than one week, so instead of working for six days continuously and then the seventh day off, you work continuously for twelve days and then have a weekend off. |

It's a ridiculous proposition on all fronts and simply doesn't make sense. |
