And he stressed that he did not want to see schools teaching "creationism", which rejects scientific explanations for life on earth in favour of religious beliefs.

"To my mind you cannot have a school which teaches creationism and one thing that we will make absolutely clear is that you cannot have schools which are set up, which teach people things which are clearly at variance with what we know to be scientific fact."

Sounds like a can of worms to me, what do you think? :?

Or are you still trying to work out if you'd still give Goldie Hawn one?

Religion should not be taught in schools.

Yeah, sure just ignore the Hawn issue why don't you... ;)

Initial reaction, I think the concept of religion should be taught within schools, within reason... I'm leaning towards thinking that parents/guardians should be in charge of their children's religious education if that's what they want :|

Buddhism is very mild as far as religions go, but making allowances for then means making allowances for the extremists, form other religions as well. I think that the whole religious schools program started by Blair was because the newly convert Blair hoped that it would get him an audience with the Pope and papal absolution for his war crimes. While such schools should be allowed to continue there should be no new such schools. Plus the financing of the schools was a scam as well. It started with matching funds from the government then because there were so few takers it was five times as much from the government as the cult or religion raised. I hoped that there would be a few satanist and Jedi schools started, just to make a mockery of the whole scheme.

Teach the kids that religion exists in school, but don't let them join a religious group until they are 18, when they can think for themselves.

Yeah, there may be something to that line of thought...

Slight issue with that....

Those that can think for themselves probably wont join a religion
Most of them can't think for themselves, 18 or older

That is my belief as well. Shame so many become MPs.
