I know I copied my parents. I started drinking at 8, on watered down wine at dinner parties. I also drank home brew beer with my father occasionally.

I was taught, you don't drink to excess, you don't drink alone at home.

I very rarely drink at home, we bought a case of beer when we bought the house, there are probably at least half a dozen bottles left. A case of beer normally lasts us several months.

We occasionally drink a beer on a Friday night, with the house renovations, we sometimes drink a social beer at lunch, when the brothers are working on the house.

On the other hand, I have a friend, who is an alcoholic, he drinks half a case of beer every evening, pukes when he gets up, then goes to work. :( His parents aren't big drinkers, neither is his sister. He had a bad relationship when he was younger, which pretty much destroyed him and he turned to the bottle.

The same applies to me. I barely drink, I never drink alone. It sits in the cupboards for months, only getting drunk when I have visitors. I drink out socially but never really go over the top.

My parents used to be quite social drinkers... I drink a couple of times a month if that, apart from the drink last night with my gf it was for a friends birthday.... before that was new years lol

I don't drink for 2 straightforward reasons.
1. It's now quite expensive, especially for someone who prefers a finer drink and takes a few to get my buzz on
2. I hate getting hangovers

I most certainly did not learn my drinking habits from my parents.

They have always been very responsible drinkers. Up to the age of about 14, so was I. I very occasionally had a glass of wine with dinner, diluted with water when I was younger.

I taught myself to binge drink on my own initiative, with just a little help from my friends.

I don't even drink the same drink as my parents. Although I do love wine, I mostly drink whisky and neither of my parents can stand the stuff :?

The same also goes for smoking. My parents never smoked, and only a few of my friends did. I was just curious about it, so I tried.

I think my dad gave me an alcopop once when I was 18

Anything I know about drinking was self-taught...

I taught myself too. I've barely ever seen either of my parents drink. I only know that my Mum used to be partial to half a Guiness. Until recently, I didn't drink very often, but I did drink a lot. And that was all learnt from my peers.

What's wrong with drinking alone? I'm quite partial to the odd glass of cider at home. :?

One drink leads to two, leads to three, etc till you get liver failure. Most alcoholics drink alone, unless they have a drinking buddy.
