If England are ever knocked out of any tournament then I would support any of the home nations. Maybe the English are different from the leek, potato, and haggis munchers? ;)

I must confess I really don't get the level of anti-English rhetoric from so many sports fans, like Amnesia I would support any of the home nations (assuming they weren't playing England). The only nation I expressly support against is Italy at football, and that's purely because they play with such a dull, negative style (especially for a team with such good players). If they changed that I'd be far happier watching them.

I do.

It's called nationalism (otherwise known as political xenophobia and/or racism).

I guess racism is fine as long as it's against the ethnic majority.

I would say what I'd do if there was a world cup where Scotland had qualified and England didn't but I'm only 40 so I've never had to cross that bridge yet.

The other home nations only feel the need to hate England because they're so insanely jealous. ;)

Yeah, it's knowing they're foreign that's driving them mad.

There is a bit of a difference in my head at least between being anti-English and anti-England in sports. I am a quarter English, BTW.

I wouldn't dream of discriminating against any individual because of their nationality, even someone who is English. ;)

BUT, when it comes to sport, I support Wales in rugby, England in cricket because we don't have a team and anyone playing England in just about every other sport with the possible exception of the French.

Why?

Because of all the [LIFTED] hype and the fact that the English believe that we should support them just because our (Wales, Scotland, Ireland) teams may not be as good as theirs.

In the week before the Winter Olympics was due to start the only mention I had heard of it was the advert on BBC2, but the fact that the England football captain might be fired before the World Cup which starts in how many months? was headline news.

GET SOME [LIFTED] PERSPECTIVE and then send me one of those T-Shirts.

I do not really regard myself as English. I was born in Ulster, rest of the family from England, India, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland, Burma and Australia. So I regard myself equally as European or British. If someone calls me English I do not get angry.
