I wonder if my not-much-of-a-friend Richard Boote has that kind of cash? He did buy Air (Lyndhurst Hall) - I know it'd keep my Engineer friends pretty happy....

I heard and interview with Sir Paul McCartney (sp?) this morning. He was saying it was deplorable, a great tragedy and that sure someone could find enough money to save it.

To my dismay, the interviewer didn't follow this statement with the question "well, I can't think of anyone with absolute potloads of cash for whom Abbey Road studios played an important part in their history and has recently made very public statements that he is opposed to the sale, can you?"

Do you think he'd buy it if he thought Jobs was up for it? ;)

I'm not sure a suggested price tag of £30m will have people lining up for the property.

Will it be saved for nostalgia, or as a method to profit from nostalgia?

Luckily it isn't old enough for the NT to step in, or is it? :?

Well having pots of cash didn't stop George Martin let Lyndhurst Hall go - okay so he was only "the fifth Beetle" - but still...

Maybe it's just me, but if you were seriously interested in something that could spark a bidding war, would you even announce your interest? :?

No you would keep damn quite till the end of the auctions and bid when you had an idea of the interest.

Abbey Road studios 'not for sale', says EMI

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8527095.stm

Erm, so why the fcuk didn't you say so at the beginning?

Between all these people declaring an interest when it wasn't really in their interest to do so, and now this, I'm starting to wonder just what's been going on :?

The problem for the company that bought EMI is that they are close to insolvency. They loaded EMI up with debt to buy the company In one of the leveraged buy outs and many are in serious trouble. I expect many companies to become available for sale.
