A website called PleaseRobMe claims to reveal the location of empty homes based on what people post online.

The Dutch developers told BBC News the site was designed to prove a point about the dangers of sharing precise location information on the internet.

Interesting a double edgesd sword I'm afraid. :?

I am very conscious of what is online. I do not use twitter for those purposes. I also do not always answer my phone when home so that is not a great indicator of if I am at home.

Seen the site?

Glad I don’t play that game, but I am generally careful about what I post on Twitter.

Of course you do need to know where these people live in order to rob them. :?

If they tweet from home on a mobile device that has geotagging enabled (and there's a lot of people that do this) it's not that hard to work out.

The site was on Buzz Out Loud last night and heavily tweeted and buzzed yesterday.

As others have said, I tend not to reveal my location, although it is generally pretty obvious, when one is talking about work things, that one is probably in the office...

I disable the location awareness on my Twitter clients.

But it is amazing the number who do give out their location. I don't know about robbing people, it makes stalking easy as well. Add in Buzz's feature of buzzing all messages sent by people "near" your location, whether you are following them/know them or not...

It's not just Buzz. My iPhone Twitter app can pull up a google map with everyone around me that has tweeted recently regardless if I follow them or they follow me.

Actually if you are like normal if you talk work things during work hours that is pretty much a hint that you are not at home as well. ;)

Not everyone is in that situation, plus people who know you will still be at a loss as to where you really are.
