1% outside the healthy category and could be at risk of heart disease and cancer.

Shows how idiotic the BMI can be. You can be fit, healthy and have a large muscle mass and have a BMI indicating obesity.

A guy at work was told buy his doctor that he was overweight because he is 13st. He is mainly muscle and probably the healthiest person in the office.

Technically every member of the England rugby team would also be obese by BMI measures. They have a lot more muscle than average and that screws up the results.

BMI is an incredibly stupid and flawed concept anyway, it was created by a mathematician in the 19th century to try and correlate the difference in height/weight relations of the population to see if class had any difference. It was as useless then as it is now

Studies have shown that BMI is rubbish and studies have proven to eat healthily and engage in regular light exercise is better than just being within the boundary.

BMI doesnt take into consideration muscle mass/fat percentage, lifestyle, body type (endomorph, mesomorph or ectomorph), cholesterol and other true factors relating to the health of someone.

BMI is so crap, Christian Bale in Batman (where he was pretty ripped) was severely/morbidly obese. Brad Pitt & Michael Jordan are overweight, George Clooney is obese, as is Russel Crowe

Last time I had an asthma checkup, I was weighed, measured and had my waist measurement taken too. Seems that some practices take into account the girth as well as the height and weight so they are checking body shape to a certain extent. Odd that this was not applied to the kids. Maybe measuring the waist is too much like “inappropriate hugging” and can’t be done.

Isn’t the best method to determine body fat to immerse the individual in a tank of water and check the displacement?

I think the best way for body fat calculations is a combination of height / mass measurements in conjunction with meauring how much skin can be pinched at certain locations around the body. Probably too much effort/cost involved.

I'm sure I saw a simple device that measured your lardiness quickly with an electric current through a couple of finger clips. Did I dream that?

A simple way is that if you can pinch more than an inch of skin then you are over weight.

No - the gym I use has a fat percentage measuring set of scales. You step onto the scales, standing on magic electric pads. They measure the fat percentage of your body against your weight, so I'd imagine if you know your weight, then electric doodads on your fingers would be able to work out your fat percentage too.

You should stop grabbing your penis

Skin is stretchy anyway, that technique doesnt work for people who were overweight and lost it, the skin is quite elastic...but has it's limits
