I agree the problem with shares is that they have gone nowhere for ten years so why invest in them? People have far more pressing needs. Secondly since the directors are selling out why should the public support the insiders getting out? It is shameless vote buying. As Vince cable says we have more pressing needs top deal with rather than speculating.

If they really wanted to help the worst off, they could sell the banks and then raise the threshold at which people pay income tax. That would mean people on benefits would find it more worth while working than claiming.

Yes but it is just like the old Tories selling us our shares at a discount which means that only the rich will benefit. Typical Tory values.

Apart from in this case the Government is selling the shares, so the banks will be owed by normal shareholders again.

So in order to get the shares into private hands again they are willing to short change the tax payers. Not exactly ethical. If they were to sell them properly then I would have no problem with that. They could also sell the shares in small tranches. That way the market can set the value for the next tranche.
