Quote:
General Motors (GM) is recalling 1.3 million small cars in North America because of a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes .....................................GM says the affected cars are still safe to drive

Does anybody else see a distinct contradiction there :?

I think that it might all be down to software. Many of Toyotas problems are down to the same reason - software.

So ? if its linked to 14 crash's and is serious enough to do a recall how can it be safe.......... :?

I do not think that it is safe. Too many problems with computer controlled cars.

14 crashes among 1,300,000 cars works out at very slightly more than one crash per 100,000 cars. If there is a design or manufacturing fault that causes one accident, that is enough to justify a recall, but not enough to make the car dangerous as such.
