Who'd take any grief from the Catholic church, even if they are/were right? Especially on 'lack of trust'

Sorry to be the one to bring this up, but this from an organisation that covered up abuse for so many decades?

I have to agree with both of you. The Catholic Church are not really the ones to trust especially with their scandals all over the world. Though I do agree with the general gist of the report. As a society we have become much more selfish. I blame Thatcherism for the changes. We all want everything no matter what the impact is on everyone else. It is continued today with the choice agenda of the political parties. Gone are the days of community. New Labour are no better with the Post Office closures and property bubbles which mean that communities cannot afford to live where they grew up.

I agree, it is a little hypocritical, given the Catholic Church's history.

But they do have a good point. When was the last time you could leave your car unlocked over night in a major city?

On a hot summers day, can you go to the shops without worrying about closing the French windows?

Can you walk home from the pub at night, without worrying about being mugged?

Can you forget to lock the front door, when you go to bed and still expect to find all of your possessions where you left them?

If you had a large delivery of building materials delivered during the day and you were at work, would you expect to still find them on your driveway 8 hours later?

If you are having new windows or decorating, would you give the workers a key, so they could install the windows / decorate while you are at work?

Would you leave the keys in the ignition of your 4 motorcycles, in an unlocked garage, so that any friends who dropped by could borrow them for the day?

Can you buy goods online and pay for them after they have arrived and you've received the invoice?

These are all things I've done. The first couple when I was in the UK in the 90s, the friends I have who live in the same street now have had large stone garden furniture (bench and table) stolen from in front of the house! They needed at least 4 people to lift them, yet nobody saw anything...

The rest I have done in the last 2 months (the motorcycles is a friend of mine near Hannover)...

And that is just the "personal" examples of trust. Add in the lack of trust in politicians, financial institutions etc.

Is there a lack of trust? I think so.

Trust is not an issue where you know your neighbours and there are not too many strangers. Years ago kids used to get home and the door was unlocked with everyone out or at work. I think that drugs have had an impact as theft to feed drug habits increased. Druggies will steal from anyone including family and neighbours.
