Number of councils installing microchips in bins jumps by 50pc in 12 months

There has not been an adequate response as to what these chips are for. I have a community bin, but for those with their own bins this could be a new tax.

I have always been led to believe that the chips are there to somehow ensure/encourage recycling. By peanalising bin owners who don't. It won't stop your neighbours dumping their crap in your bin and you getting a fine for it.

Like you, I have 3 big communal bins which service 14 flats.

All it will do is as you say get people to dump their rubbish in other bins. Once a few people have been hit they will simply hide their bins. My rubbish use is so small. It can take me two weeks to fill a small bin bag. I try and get as much without packaging so I do not have much to throw out.

"Yes mister council inspector, I often use my wheeley bin to brace against when I'm using a power drill. In this sad case it seems the drill bit was longer than it needed to be and I simply applied too much force. Still, it's only a small hole and it doesn't let the rubbish leak out so.. what's that? A micro chip you say? In a bin? Why I've never heard of such a thing. "

Whats weighing a bin going to do. I recycle quite a lot with my collection of bins;

1 x green normal bin
1 x brown and grey recycle bin
1 x brown garden bin
1 x black glass bin
1 x small green food waste bin

The thing is all my bins (as its a two week collection) are always full.

Yup swap the chips if they externally afixed between bin

The excuse will be to encourage households to recycle more. Although if this was the case it would probably be easier to reduce packaging at source.

We have recycling bins where I live but we cannot recycle cardboard and plastic. So how about a national recycling scheme before resorting to secretly chipping everyone's bins.
It also doesn't help when some idiot dumps a box of metal hangars in the paper bin. :x

maybe councils should start a new campaign 'support a pothole'
by giving just £2 a month you can support a pothole and receive a signed photograph of your adopted pothole
you can also 'twin' a pothole with another in a different area for just £3 a month …

Why cant the government ban all non recyclable packaging? That way it can all be recycled or composted or companies are forced to use reuseable containers. Deposits on drink bottles could be a start. Drink cans while recyclable do invariably get throw away. By enforcing the reuse of glass bottles like coke used to have and the bigger glass bottles with deposits will eliminate all the plastics used. Same goes for tetra packs which in theory can be recycled are not because of the coatings.

I do recycle. I have a separate container for it (a green box, rather than an different wheely bin). My local council has failed to collect it for the last two months. I've got about boxfuls loads of stuff to go but they simply haven't picked it up since new year. if they even vaguely try to bill me for waste when they can't even be bothered to pick up the stuff I do sort, there's going to be some serious ructions.

Have 25p deposit on all cans, bottles , jars etc.
