A consistent 512k would keep many people happy. If you want to stream video watch the bloody TV or go to Blockbuster.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I agree about the 512k, but why shouldn't people stream video as they want to (not that those hosting the content don't often take the p1ss with pricing)? :?

When you go for a drive you expect to be held up by idiots, caravans and road works, why should the net be any different? Also with roads the more you build the more traffic you get, and I think the same could be said about BB, greater bandwidth = more FLASH!!! :P

Roads are a bad analogy. There are many reasons why we can't have roads that are 100x faster. However, a broadband infrastructure that was over 9000x faster than our currant bun would occupy no more space and cost no more to operate. Doubtless it will be built one day; I just wish it would be some time before I die waiting for my next download.

I don't have a TV :(

iPlayer is probably my only source of watching TV.

Although with a 10mbps connection I can watch it seamlessly in HD :D

I have 1.5Mb on average and that is OK for most of my needs. I'm sure if I had 10Mb I would have a similar shortfall in my needs being met.

In other words it doesn't matter how fast your connection it will never be fats enough. Same as rubbish expands to fill the space available. :D

I'm not saying that roads should or could be faster, but if they can carry more traffic at the current speed then they will. That is what I'm implying with broadband, the data doesn't reach you any faster (laws of physics) but the amount of data you can recieve in a set time can increase, and yet if it does there are people out there who will fill the capacity full of useless junk.

The first broadband connection we got (on the day it was brought to the village no less) was a 1mbps connection, I remember thinking the speed boost over dial-up was incredible.

Now I'm on 10mbps, and will never go back. :D

I was chatting to a BT engineer today who came to install a leased line and he said the problem was BT has to keep its shareholders sweet and also has a £6bn black-hole in its pensions which is somehow needs to fill which is why they are reluctant to push fibre to cabinet (or upgrade small exchanges) and that will remain so until the government steps in with some cash incentives.

Apparently they will do fibre to home now if you have enough money!
