What's he complaining about? His company exists only because MS don't put security above ease of use etc. |

I do think that Microsoft are in a difficult position. If they make it so secure that you cannot compromise the machine you get complaints that they are putting the AV industry out of business. |

This shows the arrogance of some people tbh. They sell an OS, and give away a lot of free software to encourage people to the brand. He obviously doesn't realise Security Essentials is essentially OneCare as a free product updated. They must REALLY be feeling a pinch if he is attacking free software, next he will attack AVG ![]() |

TBH I think MS providing Security Essentials for free is a very good idea - I install it on every Windows machine I get my hands on (normally where a Norton trial has ended). |

Same, it's a name people recognise, let alone can pronounce ![]() It's also good especially for free software, not bloated and doesn't bring a system to a grind when running a scan. More importantly it updates when Windows update does the rounds, so it's an install and forget system. |

That sounds like a much better product that many AV solutions. MacAfee the last time I used it in a friends machine was so bloated that it slowed the machine down noticeably. If it automatically updates itself and scans without interfering with the user than that is what users want. I was chatting to a friend who was checking his ex-wife's computer for her. She ran out of storage, despite having a 40 Gb partition which was unused. Her machine was loaded with trojans and malware. She never updated the definitions in more than a year because it interfered with what she wanted to do, and so she stopped them. No updates either. Though that is typical of the average user. |
