OK, should she have chosen her words more carefully, should it be viewed 'in context', is the mother over-reacting (though few would speak out to blame her)... :?

His opinions are based on age of criminal responsibility, so if the children aren't criminally responsible then what they have done is more likely to be exceptionally unpleasant, rather than cowardicely brutal. Or however you want to word it.

Now if the children can't be held responsible, what about the parents? I do think there is some blame to be applied somewhere, making sure it goes to the right place is how to prevent something like this happening in the future.

She has every right to remain incandescent with rage towards the boys who killed her child, but Maggie Atkinson didn't do anything wrong. Ferguson is simply going mental because somebody used level headed language to describe something.

Quote:
James's mother Denise Fergus demanded an apology over the comments she described as "twisted and insensitive", adding Dr Atkinson should then "resign or be sacked".

"To describe the murder of James as 'unpleasant' is an insult to his memory, and a downright lie," she told the Mercury Press.

"What they did to James was completely inhuman and to try to say it was 'unpleasant' is outrageous.

"To say that James 'ended up dead' is callous and almost makes it sound like an accident. I am furious about the way she has described his murder."

Funny how it isn't "twisted and insensitive", "an insult to his memory", "completely inhuman", "outrageous" or "callous" for Denise Fergus to cash in on her dear little boy being dead.

Hypocrite.

F*** off.

The parents of Venables and Thompson should have suffered for bringing up their kids so badly. As for what I have no idea.

Neglect would be a good place to start.

A real dilemma for all parents is how responsible they feel towards the actions of their children. Before I had kids I was of the opinion that no matter what the kids did they were the responsibility of the parents. Now I have kids I would be mortified beyond belief if my kids did anything half as bad to an animal, let alone a human being. But, you have to be careful what you say in this politically correct times  and it seems that both sides could have fared better?

This is a difficult choice. Kids nowadays know that they can get away with things. Raising the age of criminal responsibility does seem to be a PC decision but then if the law hit the parents in the Bulger case then the family would be split up anyway, with the parents doing gaol time.
