The translator should have had her Out Of Office rely in both Welsh and English. Even in Wales not that many people speak Welsh.

Could have been one of those militant “I only speak Welsh” types.

About 21% of the country speak it, quite a few of those as their first language. There would have been more were it not for English occupation and Thatcher.

Maybe so, but my point is that if you're a translator, then most people contacting you won't be able to speak the language that you deal with.

I have to agree with l3v1ck the automated response should have been in both languages. Especially if they are a translator, not everyone will understand the answer is an automated response.

In the same year, a sign for pedestrians in Cardiff reading 'Look Right' in English read 'Look Left' in Welsh.

Is this the way the Welsh will get rid of the English, through accidents? :D

I'm not disagreeing about that. We're a bilingual country, so any auto-signatures or out-of-office replies should be in both languages.

I personally have no problem with English people being here, as long as they recognise the fact that they are not in England. I'd also like it if the BBC would remember that their news & sport commentary is broadcast over both borders too. Ideally, if Brian Moore & David Cameron could be kept off the TV and out our lives, that would be a good start.

Well you do get BBC 1 Wales, BBC 2 Wales and S4C which give a far higher level of local TV that other parts of the UK.

If someone spoke Welsh, they wouldn't be emailing her for a translation in the first place
