Yes but wouldn't you prefer to know if it has been? I would say yes then you could possibly change passwords.

It does not affect me as I hate the way they scan emails to target ads at its users so do not have an email account. I do not think that Google are any different from Hotmail or Yahoo in that they are targeted because of the access to their users. I do not think that this is an excuse to berate Google any more than Microsoft or Apple for their webmail service.

But the ads are so easily blocked, even the text ones in Gmail...

I am not that bothered about the ads, it is the whole concept of scanning email to target ads which annoys me. I can appreciate that the ads pay for the service. I would want to know if my account had been hacked. I have 20 digit randomly generated passwords for all my webmail accounts. So no problem switching if necessary. :D
