It's not a major falter, it's him trying to justify having the whip in commons voting, but allowing individual voting when it comes to MEPs and peers.

He comes across more as having difficulty explaining his position, rather than faltering over whether his party believes in gay rights...in this case to marriage. I think he knows it's a ridiculous positon to allow some of his "representatives" free reign in their voting, while imposing the whip on others. It's more a failure of his party's policy than a failing on his own part.

At least it was only his thoughts he had trouble getting out....some people have much bigger problems getting other things out. :D

Ah - I see his problem. This is a press interview - that is a reporter asking questions and them jotting down what he says. BUT it’s being done in the format of a TV interview, where interviewees will have advance notice of questions before being stuck in front of a camera. He is obviously not used to being interviewed in this fashion. He clearly asks what kind of interview he is doing. He’s faltering because of the format, not the question itself.

It shows inexperience on both sides of the camera.

Don't you mean they have a problem getting out of the closet? ;)

He clearly has a problem talking about gay rights.

He's making it up as he goes along. As always, he has no clear policy directions, no particular views other than to do the opposite of whatever other parties are doing in a bid to appear fashionable.

Can we mark this topic NSFW because I find him deeply offensive and nauseating.

Not necessarily. A new format might be confusing but he is a politician. If he genuinely believes his policies he should be faultless in his answers. He knew he would be doing a Gay Times interview, so should have at least brushed up on his parties positions. He should also have an rough idea of what is happening in the European parliament, maybe not in detail but at least a rough overview.

I've given many briefings on a dive boat without any trouble, until one time when someone was filming me. I found it very off putting. However I'm not a politician with a yearning to be in the public eye.
