I think they'll try to charge more and initially may get away with it due to sheer novelty value. As the article suggests though, the market will prevail eventually and things will reach the price the majority of people are willing to pay for them. I doubt anyone will be willing to pay twice the price for an iPad version of an app that provides no extra functionality in the long term. There are some genres (games being the obvious one) where the bigger screen and higher resolution of itself is a feature but at the end of the day having a bigger screen doesn't dramatically improve a twitter app or an app used to say look up cinema showing times.

Apart from anything else, we know a lot of iPhone apps will work fine on the iPad. If both versions of an app are available, the iPhone app provides all the necessary functionality and is half the price, a lot of people are simply going to buy the iPhone app instead.

I agree. Apps that clearly benefit from the bigger iPad screen such as games will be able to charge more for the app. Those that have no additional features will find it much harder to justify the extra price.

Especially when Apple have priced the iWork Apps so aggressively - I mean, aside from highly specialised Apps (e.g. medical documentation) is any App worth more than the $9.99 Apple are asking for Pages, Numbers or Keynote for iPad? Not to me - although App developers are welcome to fill that space and seduce me if they like; let's see, an app that can bounce (say) a bluetooth signal off an opposing wall and not only tell me how far away it is (accurately) but also enter the data into a table and calculate the area, now that's something I'd pay good money for. Maybe even $9.99

The iWork apps look like a must have. Though with the location features of the iPad a decent map/atlas would be worth considering.
