They only earn £1.5m pa? Oh those poor sods, where can I donate money so that they can feed and clothe themselves properly?

Judging by the wags they must be a lost cause ;)

It's a fairly spurious article TBH. There are vast differences in the markets for the sports in question so simplistic comparisons really are 'apples with oranges'. Anyway, The problem is not whether the 'stars' of football in the UK earn too much or not, it is the fact that all footballers salaries have been uplifted to the point where what you could only describe as mediocre players are being paid far too much. I don't really mind Lionel Messi or Wayne Rooney earning a fortune, they're utterly exceptional. What I object to is a player who spends the whole season sat on the sub's bench for Birmingham City getting paid a couple of million for doing so.

It also ignores the fact that US sports have huge TV rights and that makes a big difference. Plus many team sports have rules on player pay as a percentage of club finances. In the premiership they actually get a bigger share of club finances than American sports stars do. Though the clubs here are in a much weaker financial position as a result of that.

That doesn't mean Premiership stars are under paid, it just means they not as over paid as some other sports stars.
