No mention of pies, but I fear Greggs being shut down for pushing pies!

I've beaten alcohol, smoking, cannabis and other drugs...

... but I'm buggered if I can beat junk food.

It might just be true - either that or your powers are weak, old man.

Bah!
Junk food is cheap and convenient, it not just about the food itself.
Put a Subway next to McD's and I'd take subway every time. Once you remove cost and convenience junk food isn't that attractive.
It's the same with take-away. Chinese take-aways are very tasty and fast, but if the take-away offered steamed food (eg Dim Sum) rather than fried stuff in thick sauces, I'd take the healthy steamed stuff as it's delicious.

Each to their own and all that but in our house I cook nice, tasty and generally healthy food yet we always have a little craving for some junk from time to time (be it a takeaway meal or a bit of pudding). I think it is addictive personally.

The only thing I'm addicted to is McDonalds monopoly. I don't go to McDonalds when its not on, but I'm bound to go at least once a week when it is.

Me and the Purple One went to McDonalds last night on the way back from Carmarthen for a watsit (Ice Cream things, had Cream egg in it), I won a free sundae :D

That's the issue, their food costs are obviously so low you do tend to win something. Eat more and think there's a chance of wining a better prize.

Are a lot of addictions more down to psychology than anything else? If so, I'd suggest that's maybe the big factor with junk food :?

Addiction can be physiological and psychological, or a mixture of both.

Cannabis is completely psychologically addictive. Heroin is physically addictive. I would imagine that food is psychologically addictive, but because we have to eat it is harder to avoid, unlike smoking which is not essential to live.

You're unlikely to get hepatitis or HIV from taking "Pasty" or "Mars bar", or whatever the kids are calling it these days.

The only thing junk food encourages is laziness. It's far easier to order a takeaway than to cook a proper meal, and it is far easier to get a packet of crisps from a vending machine than a piece of fruit...that needs to be washed because of all the pesticides they used at the farm...

I need the occasional chocolate fix. There was a time when I needed chocolate every 3-4 days or I would become as "scatty as a woman". I've managed to wean myself down to the point where I don't miss it if I don't have it for two weeks. I don't really get this from other 'junk food' such as pizza/chips/crisps etc. As above, those things are more out of convenience. It's quite nice to treat oneself to a supper of fish and chips once a month. Couldn't bear it every day now, yet there was a time when in sixth form, we used to go to the local chippy. This was more the 'done thing' than something I really wanted.
