We all get enough free minutes for calls not no need cheaper ones. What we need is larger data caps or lower costs for going over them. |

Yes but this was about calls to mobiles not necessarily calls from mobiles. If the termination fee was banned then they could offer what they want in terms of free calls to any mobile network. Data rates are another issue. |

A one hour call to anywhere in Europe from my land-line costs 30p. Off-peak, a one hour national call is free. I'm charged 17.86p / minute for calls to some UK mobile networks. That's £10.72 for an hour. 35x more expensive than calling abroad and infinitely more expensive than a national call. If all my regular calls were to mobiles instead of fixed lines, It would cost over £9000 a year instead of the £20 or so I presently spend. This is why I will not call mobiles except in dire emergencies for the most hurried of calls. If you want me to call you, give me a land-line or a VoIP number. |

that is because there is no termination fee on landline calls. In fact they make you jump through hoops to get the free calls. If you go over the 60 minutes they bill you. When in reality it costs them nothing to make that call. |

Indeed; hence the call to reduce or eliminate them on mobiles. Although the national call doesn't actually "cost" BT anything, it does congest the network. The hour represents "fair usage" to ensure people don't abuse the system by leaving calls open without actually talking on them. It's perfectly clear in the literature, and I have no problem keeping calls to less than an hour. I think most people I call are asleep long before that. |

In the days of dial up I used to have a deal where national calls on Saturdays cost on 50p. No one could get hold of me on Saturdays. I used the deal to ring my ISP's geographical number and would regularly clock up 1438 or 1439 minutes calls on my bill Total cost 50p! ![]() |
